Government to utilize Final year students for Covid duties – Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar
Bengaluru – July 24, 2020: Medical Education Minister Dr.Sudhakar has directed the officials to utilize final year students for Covid duties. The government is facing shortage of staff to achieve the testing targets. Along with direct recruitment, the final year students of Lab technician courses, Science students of RGUHS and volunteers will be given proper training before assigning Covid duties to them. The Minister held a meeting with the officials in this regard through Video conference.
Target has been set to conduct 30,000 tests per day in Bengaluru alone, but due to shortage of staff the government is not able to achieve the target. The service of staffs from 80 private labs and fever clinics is being utilized already. Mobile units are also running short of trained man power. Therefore, necessary arrangement is being made under Disaster Management Act, the Minister said.

Zonal wise Dash board
Presently there are issues in sharing the information being collected from the door-to-door survey to pass on to officials for real time management. Therefore it is directed to have zonal wise dashboard to share war room data. Centralized information is important to manage Covid-19, the Minister added. He also instructed them to recruit Data entry operators from Keonics. There is a need to spread awareness regarding infected persons, quarantine and treatment. He also urged public representatives to proactively involve in creating awareness. If response for direct recruitment is poor then, news paper advertisement can be given by increasing emoluments, the Minister said.
There are 12000 containment zones in the city alone. There is a need to quickly find out ILI and SARI cases and the information has to be shared with zonal officers. Also, decisions have to be made to admit them in Covid Care Centres and Hospitals. It is also the duty of zonal teams to provide ambulances wherever necessary. The Minister said. He also directed them to recruit necessary staff for this task.
Senior Officers Shalini Rajaneesh, Ajay Seth, Manjunath Prasad, Maneesh Moudgil, Satyavathi, D.Randeep, Ambu Kumar, Dr.Manjula and others were present during the video conference.
