Committee to study high Mortality Rate in ESI hospital: Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar
Gives a surprise visit to Rajajinagar ESI hospital
Bengaluru: A committee will be formed to study the reasons for high mortality of Covid patients in ESI hospital in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru. Said Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar. He gave a surprise visit to the hospital earlier in the day and reviewed the situation. The Minister also interacted with the patients here through video conference.
Till now 421 patients have been admitted to ESI hospital out of which 54 patients have died. Mortality rate is as high as 12.8% and there is a need to understand the reason said Dr.Sudhakar. Medical officer in the hospital said that more number of cancer patients are getting admitted into this hospital. Also, patients are coming to hospital often at later 
stages of infection which is also a reason for high mortality rate. However, death audit has been ordered and the same will be submitted to the government, he said.
Responding to the media Dr. Sudhakar said that there are 494 beds in this hospital and 150 beds have been reserved for Covid patients. 2 patients are in serious condition and 10 are in ICU. They are recovering. Patients have expressed satisfaction about the treatment and other facilities here. Doctors and PG students are working hard to control the pandemic. I will be visiting other hospitals also in the coming days, Dr.Sudhakar added
