Exactly these are the words directly from Director Jamie Angus. She won the Inaugural BBC Indian Sportswoman of the year award. “Congratulations to PV Sindhu – first winner of first BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year, “BBC World service group director said.
“I would like to dedicate this award to my supporters and fans that have supported me all along and also voted for me,” the winner of 5 World Championship and silver Olympic medal at Rio in singles badminton said.
Thanking BBC for the encouragement the shuttler also vouched for more women to win medals in sports.
The lifetime achievement award went to the former athlete and inspiring personality of women sports PT Usha.
The award ceremony was held in New Delhi amidst high profile sports personalities and the contenders for the award were MC Mary Kom, Dutee Chand, Vinesh Phogat, Manasi Joshi on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
